On a complaint from an affectee, the Deputy Commissioner, Co-operative Societies, Islamabad, has appointed Magistrate Liaquat Abbasi as inquiry officer to probe into the irregularities in the Ministry of Commerce Employees Co-operative Housing Society under section 43 and 44 of the Cooperative Societies Act 1925. Ghulam Farid had complained about some irregularities in the functioning of the Ministry of Commerce Employees Co-operative Housing Society.
The inquiry officer has been directed to complete the inquiry as early as possible. Ghulam Farid had also sent an application to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry requesting him to constitute a commission to look into the irregularities being committed by the Ministry of Commerce Housing Society. He had said that the society, while purchasing 150 kanals land, had embezzled Rs 25 million. He alleged that the society, since its formation in 1987, had failed in starting a single welfare project for its members.
He said the present executive committee of the society, misusing its powers, had shifted the office of the society to a posh area, and the new office is not accessible to its members. Just after the formation of the present committee its members transferred Rs 180 million to their own favourite banks for personal gains.
The present committee purchased a piece of land paying Rs 5 million per kanal and that the price was Rs 15 million higher than the market rate and on allegations of corruption Brigadier Zareef Malik president of society resigned from his post. The developmental projects of the society are pending since long, besides it has not obtained NOC for initiating developmental activities.
