Five people, including a two-year-old child and her grandmother, were killed in a series of shootings in the restive northern city of Mosul on Sunday, police said. The woman and her granddaughter died when unknown gunmen stormed their house in Tanak neighbourhood, in the west of the city.
Three Iraqi security force members - two policemen and a soldier - also were killed in separate drive by shootings while manning checkpoints in central Mosul, a police official said. Mosul is located 370 kilometres (230 miles) north of Baghdad and remains one of Iraq's most violent cities despite improvements in its security situation in the past year.
