As many as 14,046 sugar bags of 50-kilogam each of sugar have been sold to the consumers through 18 "Sastay Ramazan Bazaars" in the district on the subsidised rate of Rs 40 per kilogram and there is no shortage of sugar as the sufficient stock of sugar is available in the district.
This was disclosed at a meeting held here under the chairmanship of District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Saeed Wahlah here Thursday. The meeting was informed that sufficient quality of sugar was being supplied in the "Sastay Ramazan Bazars" for sale on subsidised rate through a comprehensive and effective mechanism so that each aspirant could purchase sugar in a smooth manner.
The meeting was further informed that the sugar, which was seized by the government during the raids on godowns, was put on sale at subsidised rates of Rs 40 per kilogram. The DCO said that the arrangements had also been made to provide the sugar on ex-mill rate of Rs 45 per kilogram with the co-operation of sugar linkers and four sale points at Sports Complexes, Ghulam Muhammadabad, Samnabad, Saleemi Chowk and Crescent ground, Sheikhupura road.
The DCO directed the concerned officers to ensure uninterrupted supply of sugar as its demand was increasing ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. He further directed them to ensure transparent and fair distribution of sugar with a view to discouraging the profiteers. Later, the DCO inspected various Sastay Ramazan Bazaars and issued necessary directions to the officers and staff deputed there.
