Sugar continues to be sold for over Rs 50/kg across the country as mafia foils all government measures to make available on control rates. Market sources told to a private TV channel that all government measures to reduce the prices of the commodity have proved less effective.
Sugar is being sold in the markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi for Rs 50/kg, in Karachi for Rs 52/kg and in Lahore for Rs 50-51/kg. However in Peshawar after the restoration of supply from the mills, sugar prices have come down to Rs 47-50/kg, where previously it was being sold for up to Rs 55-60/kg.
Although in Quetta the commodity continues to be sold for Rs 57-58. On the other hand, masses are facing great difficulties in buying sugar from the utility stores and despite waiting for hours in the queue they are unable to find the essential food item.
