The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) of the Planning Commission may approve and recommend 29 projects, costing RS 110.7 billion, including "construction of additional family suites for members of parliament," costing Rs 3042.749 million in its meeting scheduled on Thursday.
According to the agenda available with Business Recorder on Tuesday, the CDWP meeting, scheduled to be chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, will recommend Population Welfare Programme (2009-14) worth Rs 49,644.906 million submitted by the Population Welfare Division for the approval of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The Population Welfare Division has proposed spending of Rs 5,098.542 million for population welfare as a Federal activity and the provinces will get financing for the purpose as follows: Punjab: Rs 18,825.742 million; Sindh: Rs 12,758.519 million; Population Welfare Services, district Islamabad: Rs 398.524 million; NWFP: Rs 6,079.920 million; Balochistan: Rs 5330.026 million; and Azad and Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): Rs 1,263.633 million. The CDWP will consider recommendations and approval for projects, amounting to Rs 36,564.703 million in transport and communication sector.
The projects include new Gwadar international airport in Balochistan worth Rs 7,500 million with foreign exchange component of Rs 1,875 million; Bridge across River Indus connecting Larkana and Khairpur project: Rs 9225.338 million; Construction of bridge across River Indus linking Kahdkot on the National Highway N-55 with Ghotki located on the National Highway N-5: Rs 6271.302 million; Hiran Minar Interchange; construction of Rathooa-Haryam bridge across the reservoir vhannel on Mirpur-Islamabad Road: Rs 5819.436 million; Upgradation and remodelling of southern bypass of Peshawar: Rs 3230 million; Construction and Rehabilitation of roads in Dir Upper (i) PF-91 (ii) PF-92 and (iii) PF-93; construction of flyover at Kutchery Road railway crossing in Sargodha; Construction of bridge on River Ravi, Kamalia Harrapa Road, district Toba Tek Singh; improvement/widening & B/T of Road from Takhta Baig to Mathani (position paper) and construction of road from Hub to Dureji, district Lasbella (120 kilometre) (position paper).
IN PHYSICAL PLANNING AND HOUSING, PROJECTS TO BE TABLED BEFORE THE CDWP ARE:
-- Construction of new Supreme Court building at Islamabad, costing Rs 1,069.293 million; Construction of additional family suites for members of parliament, including servant quarters block at Sector G-5/2, Islamabad; Introduction of Personal Access Control System for the Security of the Parliament House building, Islamabad worth Rs 64.663 million; Provision of security infrastructure in Malakand, Swat and other conflict areas of NWFP worth rupees three billion; Rural water supply and drainage schemes in Multan (27 schemes); Prime Minister's development package for improvement of water supply and sewerage systems, including establishment of sewage treatment plant in Multan City-PC-11; Development of water supply scheme in Dir Town; Construction of second office Block in FBR house at G-5/1, Islamabad, and development package for NWFP/Fata (Swat development package) worth rupees one billion.
The projects in energy and water sector include extension/augmentation of existing 500 and 220 KV G/Station of NTDC System by installation of additional transformers; construction of 132 KV Gri Station Bajaur Agency; feasibility of Pattan Hydro-Power Project; establishment of Safety Analysis Centre (SAC) to provide Regulatory support for C-3 and C-4 Nuclear Power Project;
PP-1: 4 MW hydro Power Project; Thak-Chilas (position paper); Revamping of Uch Canal Dera Murad Jamali; Dargai Pal Small Dam in South Waziristan Agency; and Chashma Right Bank irrigation project stage-111 remedial measure in NWFP portion (Revised) (position paper).
