Pakistan Post is set to distribute 8 million money orders among the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) by the first week of October 2009,Director General Pakistan Post Muhammad Ahmed Mian has said. Talking to PTV news he said that Pakistan Post has already distributed 5.8 million money orders among the poorest of the poor under BISP.
A sum of Rs 19 billion has been distributed among the beneficiaries of BISP.
Pakistan Post has normal money order traffic of about 6 to 6.5 million per annum. The Pakistan Post charging only Rs 30 per money order. Normally it charges Rs 50 per money order.
The operational cost is Rs 25 per money order while the postman and dealing clerks are being awarded Rs 5 on each money order as an incentive.
Rs 3 is given to postman while Rs 2 per on each money order is paid to dealing clerks and other relevant staff, he said. A total of 15,000 postmen are delivering money orders. The Pakistan Post has already distributed 9 million money orders of Income Support Programme being run by Punjab government. Responding to a question he said 250 complaints have so far been received regarding anomalies in the distribution process. Taking strict action 40 officials of Pakistan Post have either been suspended or dismissed from the service, he added. Next instalment of Rs 3000 would be distributed before Eid, he concluded.
