NWFP government likely to face tough time from opposition: NWFP Assembly to meet on September 30

Opposition in the NWFP Assembly Friday vowed to give tough-time to the government in the session of the provincial legislature, convened on 30th September after a period of three months. "The opposition would remind the government of its pledges made with the electorates during the election campaign and in manifesto," said Akram Khan Durrani, opposition leader in the NWFP Assembly, while talking to the media, at the Provincial Assembly building.
Durrani said the provincial government failed to focus on core issues after improvement in security situation. The leader of the opposition, who is also a former chief minister, chastised the government for approving not a single development scheme to any member of opposition benches. Similarly, he said core issues including net-profit on hydropower generation, National Finance Commission (NFC) award, power load-shedding and provincial autonomy were still unresolved.
The JUI-F leader said religio-political party was holding Tahafuz-e-Masajid and Madaris Conference to press the government for providing protection to mosques and seminaries in the country. He criticised the provincial government for banning gatherings on the 'pretext' of security situation and removal of banners and signboards of the party in Peshawar. "The provincial government wanted to suppress the voice of dissenting political parties," maintained Durrani, adding it was not fair in a democratic society.
