Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday said that fixing power and gas tariff was the job of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) and Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), saying that the government can''t interfere in their day to day affairs.
Talking to reporters after inaugurating photographic exhibition on the 60th anniversary of Pak-China relations, he said that nobody should tell Pakistan how to fight war on terror, adding that Pakistan should be provided with intelligence information and latest equipment instead of drone attacks. He opined that it was too early to talk about pre-conditions on US aid. He urged India to exchange information about terrorism.
He said that the government was providing a subsidy of Rs 55 billion on electricity in order to provide relief to the masses, however, provision of more subsidies in future would be decided after analysing the situation. Earlier, addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Gilani said that Pak-China friendship was everlasting.
"I would like to extend, on behalf of the people of Pakistan and on my own, warmest felicitations to our Chinese friends on this auspicious occasion", Gilani said. He said that the friendship between China and Pakistan is unique and multi-dimensional and it spans over a vast spectrum of political, strategic, defence, cultural, economic and trade relations.
He said China and Pakistan untiringly and steadfastly built this ideal relationship over the past five decades, adding Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou En Lai together with late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of our all-weather friendship, which was further cemented by other leaders of the two countries.
The premier said that Pakistan and China have a common worldview on a host of issues, ranging from Taiwan to Tibet; human rights to a fair and just global order. He added that Pak-China friendship is based on complete trust, mutual understanding and shared aspirations for peace and progress.
He maintained that Pakistan greatly values its friendship with China and both the countries are committed to promoting and deepening fraternal ties, including in the area of culture and people-to-people contacts. As for Pakistan it considered that China is a factor of stability in the region and together we would continue our common endeavours for building a better future for our people and promoting international peace, stability and prosperity, Gilani observed.
