Acting trickily, Baldia Town police let its Station House Officer (SHO) flee after registration of two FIRs against him. According to police sources, two FIRs were registered against Baldia Town SHO Zulfiqar Samoo for torturing a reporter of a private TV news channel on Thursday evening after residents of Baldia had apprehended two dacoits who were fleeing after committing a crime in the locality.
The SHO had asked the media team not to report the incident due to which the police officer used harsh language against the media persons and also subjected them to severe torture, which was also aired by the private TV channel, sources added.
Soon after the registration of cases against him, the SHO, with the help of his other colleagues managed to escape, they said, adding that the investigation police was conducting raids to arrest him. However, no progress was made till filing of this report.
Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Mohammad Rafiq told Business Recorder that police were conducting raids to arrest the absconding SHO. He said they had raided the official's house located in Lyari but he was not present in his house. The IO hoped that police would succeed in arresting the SHO shortly. Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to submit him a report. However, he made it clear that strict action would be taken against SHO Zulfiqar Samoo and others involved in torturing media persons.
