Under Punjab Development Programme (PDP), the provincial government is spending more than Rs 3 billion during the current fiscal year for the construction of farm-to-market roads and to upgrade health, water and sanitation facilities and also provision of missing facilities at educational institutions.
Special attention would be accorded on the construction of farm-to-markets roads aimed at linking far off areas with their nearest mandi towns and tehsil headquarters. Official sources on Sunday told Business Recorder here that under PDP the elected representatives would identify the development projects in their respective areas.
Apart from this, the government was also mobilising more than Rs 8.50 billion on the improvement of water supply and drainage system in rural and urban areas of the Punjab. Out of this allocation 57 percent of the funds would be utilised in rural areas and 43 percent would be spent in urban areas.
The step was being taken for providing potable water facilities and implement modern sanitation system in rural and urban areas of the Punjab. The development work on these projects would soon be implemented in rural and urban areas in the province sources added.
