The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has introduced new and useful service of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC)'s verification on Short Message Service (SMS) to 7000. Now the person doesn't need to visit Nadra offices or its Kiosks to get someone's CNIC verified prior to have dealing with him/her.
The person will only write an SMS comprising CNIC number without dashes and send it to 7000. In response he/she will get the name and father's name of that particular CNIC number holder in urdu language. The SMS will cost Rs 12 from the customer for using the service, APP learnt here on Sunday. Currently, this service is available for Mobilink, Telenor and Warid customers while Ufone and Zong are in process to get listed, official source said.
He said the service will help the public in there general as well as special matters to easily verify someone's details that whether the credentials of a person are original or fake ones.
"It can really help out in business deals as well as personal contracts where you need to be sure about the real person," he added. To a question he said it isn't the breach of privacy of any person, as the Authority will only reveal the name and father's name of CNIC holder and not his/her any other personal information of contact details. In addition to this service the Authority has also introduced a similar service for the law-enforcement agencies on another SMS number to get more details of a person. The subscribers will get details through cellular companies, which would collect data in real time communication from Nadra National Data Warehouse.
"This is thought be a secure data transfer as service numbers are labelled as 'Special Numbers'," he said. The official said that Nadra is also supporting law-enforcement agencies and the government to implement and cope up with prevailing law and order situation.
