Professor Dr Nuzhat Ahmad took charge as the new Director of the Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC), Karachi University here on Monday. The faculty and staff of the AERC welcomed the Director. Dr Ahmad recently returned from US where she was serving as the Poverty Policy Advisor in the United Nations Development Programs at UN Headquarters in New York.
She previously held the position of Director at the same institution from 1996 to 2005. Dr Ahmad has vast research and teaching experience and has published extensively. The AERC is a leading research and teaching institution in the country in economics and related fields and undertakes research for international and national agencies including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UN agencies, the Federal and provincial governments.
The Centre also provides advisory support to various government agencies in the country. The AERC has its own post graduate programme in applied economics where young and talented students are trained rigorously in econometric techniques and their practical applications.-PR
