The women campus of International Islamic University, (IIU) here on Wednesday celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. Organised by the Chinese Muslim Students Union of the IIU, the event was addressed by Chairman Pakistan-China Institute, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Rector IIU, Professor Fateh Mohammed Malik and Students'Advisor, Professor Qaiserah Alvi.
Speaking on the occasion, speakers were of the view that Pakistan and China had common friends and common enemies and the two nations needed to ponder for more avenues of collaboration to further cement the bilateral ties. China stands by Pakistan as the government and people of Pakistan stood by China soon after its independence, they said.
Pakistan and China have a strategic relationship and there is a consensus across the board in Pakistan that China is Pakistan's sincere friend. Starting from 1963, China has stood by Pakistan in all conditions while Pakistan has also reciprocated the efforts of the Chinese people and its government, they added. Professor Fateh Mohammad Malik, Rector IIU appreciated deep-rooted friendship between China and Pakistan. He said that both the countries have proved to be best friends in the world.
They also lauded role of students from China who exceed 600 at IIU in strengthening these relations. Malik announced that soon there would be Chinese department and Confucius study centre at university. Meanwhile, a delegation of the IIU participated in the "Heritage of Hazrat Imam Abu Hanifa and its important in the Dialogue of Civilisation" moot in Dushanbe, Tajikistan recently.
Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President IIU led the delegation comprising Dr Haroon ur Rasheed, Dr Taj Afsar Abdulla Khan, Dr Ismail Ummara Aljazairy, Dr Fazlul Hadi Wazeen, Faculty of Islamic Studies (Usuluddin). The conference was inaugurated by Tajik President Imam Ali Rehmanov.
