"Why is the PPP so divorced from reality?"
"Whatever do you mean?"
"I define reality as the will of those who voted the PPP to power."
"You mean their constituents?"
"Yes."
"I still don't understand what you are referring to."
"You remember the long march in March?"
"Of course I do. The PPP misjudged the mood of the public as well as of the armed forces and..."
"And?"
"I think I know what you are referring to: Kerry-Lugar bill right?"
"Right. The entire country is up in arms against the bill, and with the army high command not too happy with some of the provisions it is strange that the President feels that defending the bill would be enough to counter all criticism."
"Maybe he is thinking that as he ignored the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)..."
"But that too has resurfaced hasn't it. And the Prime Minister has stated that he is not afraid of bringing the NRO to Parliament."
"The PM did not benefit from the NRO so why should he be afraid of bringing the ordinance for debate in parliament? It's the President and Rehman Malik and..."
"So what do you think?"
"I think it's best for the PPP to get on the bandwagon this time instead of being seen as the impediment...remember the same thing happened in March and even though the PPP did try to say that it reinstated the judges according to the Charter of Democracy yet we all knew that it was under intense pressure."
"But if the PPP gets on the bandwagon then how will they defend the President's four-nation tour?"
"Or indeed the efforts made by the Chosen Haqqani?"
"Or the lobbyists hired at a steep cost to our exchequer."
"The President can always say he was misguided."
"Then there have to be some resignations."
"I doubt if our democratic culture has developed to that extent? I would imagine sacking would be in order."
