The Government College University, Lahore has covered another milestone in the field of Science and Technology, by installing a high tech RF-Induction Furnace. The furnace, which can melt down almost all the chemical elements of the periodic table, would help GCU scholars in studying and experimenting with advanced alloys.
Financing for the fully automatic induction furnace, has been provided by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, whereby the technical assistance has been provided by all-time friend China. The GCU Vice Chancellor, Dr Khalid Aftab appreciated the efforts of the project team and the visiting Chinese engineers on the completion of the task. He said that the GC University, Lahore would continue working for the self-reliance of the country in the field of science and technology. He further said the GCU has always encouraged research, and would provide facilities to students for this purpose.
The already available facilities in the varsity, like SEM, TEM, SPM, LASER and Particle Accelerator are being utilised by the PhD Scholars of the varsity besides other universities and advanced industries of the country. Director, Centre for Advanced Studies Physics, Dr Ijaz M Ghauri said with the addition of material fabrication equipment at the centre, GC University, Lahore has emerged as the main hub of high tech research facilities in the country. He informed that the furnace could be used to fabricate advanced materials, cost effectively.
