Punjab Population Welfare Minister Neelam Jabbar has said that a comprehensive awareness campaign would be launched in the province for controlling the rapidly growing population.
She expressed these views while addressing the members of NGOs, LHVs and LHWs. She said that during current fiscal year, Rs59.72 billion would be spent on the social sector, which is the 46 percent of the ADP, so that the socio-economic status of the people of the province could be upgraded.
The Minister said that the main focus of the government is primary and protective healthcare so that the millennium development goals (MDGs) could be achieved. Neelam Jabbar said that population welfare centres would be established in villages comprising three thousand population and skilled birth attendants, LHVs and LHWs would be appointed at the centres.
She said that the Population Welfare Department is providing services regarding family welfare purposes through 1497 family welfare centres, 117 mobile service units, 2604 mail mobilisers, 54 birth centres and a large number of LHWs.
