Chairman, Judicial Activism Panel (JAP), Muhammad Azhar Siddique has alleged that the government of Punjab, led by PML-N is trying its level best to postpone the elections, unless a ten-year span of a treaty signed by Mian Nawaz Sharif and the then government of Pakistan will be over.
According to a statement issued here Friday, the JAP chairman said that the panel would challenge decision of the Lahore High Court, regarding postponement of the by-polls in Punjab, in Supreme Court, after unanimous decision of its executive body.
He further said he had filed nomination papers on NA-123, which were rejected on technical grounds and he would file an appeal against the decision of the ECP. He observed that the ECP must hold elections under Article 204 of Constitution of Pakistan, and that Section 103 of People Representation Act 1976 could not be invoked against the Constitution.
He said that the government of Punjab was depriving the people of their basic right of electing their representatives through elections. Any decision against basic human right was considered as null and void, he concluded.
