Japan and Pakistan Friday signed two agreements to provide financial support of US $176,089 (Rs 14.19 million) for education and water supply schemes in Fata.
According to Japan embassy, the agreements for these two projects were signed at the Ambassador's residence by Chihiro Atsumi, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Nawabzada Fazal Karim Afridi, Chief Executive of LAMP here Friday.
Under the agreement Japan will provide financial help for "Learning Awareness and Motivation Programme (LAMP)" under "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects" to construct a primary model school in village Honar Shah, Khyber agency, Fata, and to provide safe drinking water at Bakara, Khyber agency, Fata, by digging a well and constructing water supply system.
The grant of US $88,514 for the Project for Construction of Primary Model School will be utilised for the construction of new building for the school, which will have 6 classrooms including the provision of about 200 desks and chairs.
The purpose of the project is to improve the educational environment for the students in the area since they are studying in a temporary classroom without desks and chairs currently. This project is expected to benefit 164 students.
The grant of US $87,575 for the Project for Provision of Safe Drinking Water will be utilised for digging a well of 100 meters deep and the construction of water supply system in Bakara.
The purpose of the project is to supply safe drinking water to the residents in the area, who have been facing serious water shortage since long. The project is expected to improve the living and sanitary conditions of about 2,000 residents in Bakara as well as about 2,500 residents in the surrounding area who take water from the well by truckage.
