Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has opposed finalisation of new National Finance Commission (NFC) Award on only population basis and demanded that distribution of resources from divisible pole should be on multi-criteria basis including area, poverty, and backwardness of a province.
Talking to newsmen at Quetta Airport soon after his arrival from Karachi here on Sunday evening, he said: Three provinces including Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP want distribution of national resources on multi-criteria basis and they opposed the distribution on only population basis.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah was of the view that there is no distribution of national resources amongst provinces of state on population basis across the world and only in our country such tradition was prevailing. He said that it was a golden chance to set a new trend by announcing new NFC award on multi-criteria basis as now a democratic government was ruling the country.
He noted that issues of GST on services and royalty on electricity production and others would also be discussed. In reply to a question, he reiterated that issue of Pushtoonkhwah had been resolved. He stressed the need to promote harmony between provinces. Commenting distribution of national resources methods, he said that it would be also decided in the meeting whether how much share would be given to provinces from NFC award and how much to the federal government.
It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah would discuss NFC award and other issues with Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani and other senior authorities while a meeting would be held on Monday here in Quetta to review different aspects of new NFC award.
