PIA would continue to promote, train and develop cricketing talent, hockey, football and other sports to support growth amongst the youth enabling them to become world class sportsmen and sportswomen.
Speaking at a function organised by the PIA Cricket Academy, Managing Director PIA Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon asserted the committee of the Academy that adequate funds would be made available for the PIA Cricket Academy to improve the training facilities and equipment for imparting training to young talented boys and girls in various sports.
He also announced a 20 percent increase in the salaries of the staff working at the PIA Cricket Academy. Managing Director PIA praised the youngsters of under 14 and under 13 cricket teams for their performance in the recent Summer Trial Matches held in Karachi and distributed certificates, shields and prizes amongst the distinguished trainee players for their performances.
Managing Director PIA took a round of the premises and inspected the net practice of the youngsters through the cricket bowling machine during the training session. Besides, cricket young boys of the neighbourhood are also trained in Marshall Arts at the Academy. The yellow, blue and black belts presented an impressive display of Karate Combat, brick and stone breaking through Karate.
The Academy also serves as a Training Centre for PIA-Boy Scouts Association. It also imparts Karate Training Classes to Children. Managing Director PIA, Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon the Chief Scout PIA was given a welcoming Salute by PIA Boy Scouts.
Earlier, Shuaib Khan, President PIA Cricket Academy said that PIA Cricket Academy established by PIA in the year 2002 is presently proving training to more than 400 players. The basic aim of the Academy is to make effective use of resources for developing skills of budding cricketers and children of PIA employees throughout Pakistan. Keen youngsters with cricketing talent may polish and excel their cricketing skills at the Academy. The minimum age for induction as trainee is five years, he added.
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Managing Director PIA, Salim Siyani, PIA's Director HR and Administration, Haneef Pathan who is also the Chairman of the Academy, senior officials of the airline, sportsmen, cricket trainees, scout leaders, girls scouts, parents of trainees and family members of PIA senior management.-PR
