The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Secretary, Minorities Affairs, seeking comments in a petition challenging alleged anomalies in allotment of flats by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB). The petitioner, a bar member Aftab Maqsood had contended that the ETPB constructed flats at 80-Lawrence Road, Lahore and proposed to rent out the same.
On this, the petitioner submitted an application for allotment of a flat on rental basis, which was duly received by the office of Chairman ETPB. However, he did not receive any intimation regarding action on the application. Following this, he filed a revised petition against the concerned officials before the Secretary, Minorities Affairs division Islamabad. Later, he was informed that the ETPB had already stopped renting out the flats.
The petitioner alleged that the Chairman and Administrator ETPB were trying to frustrate him on one pretext or other, in order to compel him to abandon his application for the allotment of the flat. He further alleged that all of the vacant flats had been allotted secretly to different persons under the verbal orders of the Chairman, ETPB. The petitioner prayed to the court to declare illegal allotment letters issued by ETPB null, void and unlawful.
