The Rohtas Art Gallery (RAG) here on Wednesday previewed a series of miniature and print making work by Aisha Rahim and Saba Raza Khan. The show will be inaugurated on October 22 (today) and will continue till November 2nd with diverse ideas of both the artists in opposite mediums.
About the works, Saba Raza Khan says, "My work is based on my personal observation and emotional attachment with a patient of Alzheimer's disease. It's a disease in which the brain deteriorates and the memory process is reversed to backward."
"In my work, I tried to cover different aspects of the disease. Constant repetition of vocabulary, knowledge and action guided me to make the images the same way. The repetition of linear drawings, which create a shaky image portrays how the repetition of action can disturb the viewer," she said. In the imagery, the presence of clocks and watches show how a person suffering from such disease tries to hold on to time, as he cannot hold on to memory.
While Aisha Rahim's work speaks through her lines and colours that create awareness about the atrocities of the society. Aisha has done her Bachelor in Fine Arts, (Miniature painting Major, Ceramics, print making Minor) from National College of Art and started displaying her work during this time only. She has appeared in various national and international Exhibitions (India, Italy and UK) and her work appreciated and sold readily, boosting her moral.
The artist mastered her skill to work with the zero brush on a small Vasli, bent down day and night, producing remarkable pieces of art. Aisha's canvass is never over crowded, she delivers the message through few lines, motifs, colours and the very unusual composition all merge together to form an art piece. The topics she has selected, explains "Why is this violence against children ignored?, Why is a child victim revictimized through threats and blame and the adult responsible for the violence pardoned and emboldened to continue the brutal act?
According to Aisha, 'Child sexual abuse' is not openly discussed in Pakistan. Her work is revolving around child psyche, emotion and distressing feelings and how parents treating their children and family set-up. Her aim is to do more research and address this issue openly as these hidden problems generate unhealthy society.
