PKCC rejects corporate farming, sale of land to foreign firms

The Pakistan Kissan Co-ordination Committee has rejected corporate farming and sale of state land to foreign countries/companies. The PKCC, having membership of 22 organisations from all over the country held a one-day seminar here on Thursday to discuss problems of the agriculture sector and food security for the poor.
The seminar was addressed by vice president Anjuman-e-Mozareen Punjab Mian Mohammad Ashraf, Secretary PKCC Mahr Abdul Sattar, central secretary women Labour Party Pakistan Nazli Javed, Secretary General Sindh Hari Tehreek Anwar Ali Rind, and spokesman Labour Party Pakistan Farooque Tariq.
The participants of the seminar demanded that to overcome food crisis and empowerment of the poor, the government should give state lands to peasants, tenants, mozareen and haris. They said that fifty percent of the labour force is engaged in the agriculture sector but 70 percent poor farmers own just 15 percent of the agriculturable land of the country. They said that only 26 percent land is under cultivation, therefore, the government should make arrangements to bring more land under cultivation by allotting it to the landless peasants.
