Security has been beefed up across the city with the deployment of additional contingents of police and rangers on major arteries and sensitive areas to thwart any untoward situation. The personnel of Pakistan Army, Frontier Constabulary (FC), and reserve police have also been put on standby to cope with any emergency, official sources in Sindh Home Department told Business Recorder on Thursday.
They said that at least 12,000 personnel of Pakistan Rangers and around 20,000 police contingent have been deployed at all major roads, roundabouts, shopping centers, media organisations, government offices, residence of diplomats, embassies and consulates, multinational companies, government installations, airports, railway stations, hotels and other important places.
They further informed that the Interior Ministry has also warned the Sindh government of arrival of terrorists of banned organizations from tribal areas to the metropolis. Police and Rangers have started snap-checking at all entry and exit points of the city, like the Toll Plaza, Superhighway, Indus Highway, Northern Bypass etc, and have started collecting details of the people entering the city.
Besides, the patrolling of law enforcement agencies have also been beefed up across the city to keep a vigil eye on the miscreants, they added. Special security measures have also been taken to protect offices in and around the Sindh Secretariat from any attack. The entry of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles, without stickers have been restricted around the Sindh Secretariat Building, particularly at Shahrah-e-Kamal Attaturk Road, they said.
Moreover, the entry of heavy vehicles has also been blocked around the Sindh Assembly and Sindh High Court by placing containers on the roads. "We have taken all measures to ensure safety of lives and properties of people of the city and the security arrangements will further be increased as per requirement," the officials added.
The sources said the law enforcement agencies were also monitoring the city with the help of Command and Control Center of the City District Government Karachi. The CCTV cameras installed in the city were monitoring the concerned areas round the clock and the law enforcement agencies were working in close co-ordination with the higher authorities, they elaborated.
Meanwhile, the officials of Sindh Home Department are holding regular meetings with IG Sindh, CCPO Karachi and heads of other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety and security of the citizens. The DIGs of three zones, SPs, TPOs, SHOs have been directed to co-ordinate with the management of media organisations to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the letter, the sources concluded.
