The Chairman, Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), Khalid Mirza, has said that any bid to curtail the enforcement powers of CCP would render the institution toothless and helpless against the powerful mafias in the country. He was addressing media men at a workshop organised by CCP to sensitise journalists on the Competition Laws and the Powers of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
Khalid Mirza said that the CCP's powers of forced entry in case of resistance from an undertaking during a surprise visit, and the amount of penalties specified in the Competition Ordinance, 2007 were consistent with the international standards.
"The Competition Ordinance, 2007 is the state-of-art-law that effectively deals with the competition-related issues. Thus, the law needs to be enforced in its true spirit if the Pakistani economy has to grow." Mirza further said that CCP has achieved many milestones in a short period of time, which is incomparable with any competition agency in the world.
Earlier, presentations were given to the participants of the workshop to elucidate the various key provisions of the Competition Ordinance. Member Legal, CCP, Rahat Kaunain Kausar briefed the participants on the concept and evolution of competition regime in the world.-PR
