Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the Directorate General, Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I) to start a crackdown against unregistered motorcycles'' manufacturers. In response to a letter sent by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association to the board on August 10 this year, the competent authority has authorised the DGI&I in this regard.
According to a notification issued on October 7 by the revenue division of FBR, DGI&I has been asked to request all provincial chief secretaries for disallowing the registration of motorcycles manufactured and sold by unregistered manufacturers.
It further stated that the unregistered manufacturing units are installing smuggled auto parts in the two-wheelers and selling them without sales tax invoices. Therefore, the DGI&I has been allowed to seize such smuggled parts/components or motorcycles manufactured/assembled from such parts as per the provisions of the Customs Act, 1969.
