Commodities markets, retailers keep away: firmer outlook prevails on wholesale

The firmer outlook on the commodities wholesale markets was keeping retailers shy to cover their actual needs. Thus keeping trading insignificantly during the week ended on October 31, 2009.
On the opening day gur low type conceded Rs 100 to Rs 5300 whereas the other type retained weekend level at Rs 6000. Cottonseed oilcake with bag in Sindh better type conceded Rs 30 to Rs 1010 and inferior type managed to hold previous level at Rs 1000.
On Jodia Bazaar Ceylon raw rubber (per Lb) Merryrub (equivalent to RSS3) rose by Rs 9 to Rs 100, RSSV up by same amount to Rs 101, Merryrub (equivalent to Rs Grape) rose by Rs 22 to Rs 120 and pale Grape TPc 3 rose by Rs 23 to Rs 120. Latex Merrytax (28 Kg) rose by Rs 90 to Rs 640, Semnan Tex rose by Rs 90 to Rs 640 and Thai (G.T) gained Rs 90 to Rs 640.
On Tuesday easier conditions marked on the wholesale grain and seed markets, such as gram 50x50 rose by Rs 3300, while better type was quoted at Rs 3500. On the serials side moong Punjab shed Rs 125 to Rs 4375, masoor Canada lost Rs 500 to Rs 6500 and masoor dal also shed same amount to Rs 8000 while the other kind was seen quoted at Rs 8500. Cottonseed oilcake better type with bag rose by Rs 20 to Rs 1020 while the low type was stick up at Rs 1000.
On the yarn side, the govt was urged to ban exports of yarn which markets sources said was adding to high cost of doing business. They said speculators have virtually taken over the local cotton and yarn market where they said prices rose by Rs 15 to Rs 70 per bundle. They cautioned the continued export without meeting local needs at reasonable rates will turn textile exporters to foreign markets. Chairman APCPA went so far as to be in practice what he called unhealthy yarn trade activity was part of conspiracy against textile policy.

On the seed side, til low type conceded Rs 300 to Rs 3000, while the other type stayed put at Rs 3600. On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudia was quoted at Rs 47, sulphonic acid soft ended up by Rs 22 to Rs 110, sulphonic acid hard shed Rs 8 to Rs 125, and DDBSA lost Rs 13 to Rs 125.
On Thursday rates on the grain and seed markets were reported unchanged owing to balanced supply and demand.
On Jodia Bazaar lower plastic mouldings depicted following variations: (per pound) HDPE (film) Saudia 952 ended lower by Rs 2 to Rs 61, Mobil shed Rs 2 to Rs 61 and TR 144 also lost same amount to Rs 61. HDPE injection sabic 200056 ended higher by Rs 2 to Rs 65, Mobil 016 up by Re 1 to Rs 62 and Iran quoted at Rs 61. HDPE (blow) Kuwait shed Rs 2 to Rs 62, Marlex Singapore quoted at Rs 65 and Iran ended lower by Re 1 to Rs 62, LDPE 374 rose by Re 1 to Rs 70, MG 20 rose by Re 1 to Rs 75 and Mg 70 shed Rs 3 to Rs 75. LLDPE W118 conceded Rs 2 to Rs 64, 7087 shed Rs 3 to Rs 75 and Sabic 200026 down Rs 2 to Rs 75. Polypropylene tape grade Indian lost 50 paisa to Rs 55.50, Kuwait lost same amount to Rs 55.50, and Saudia shed 50 paisa to Rs 55.50, polypropylene injection grade Saudia conceded 50 paisa to Rs 56, India shed same amount to Rs 56, and Kuwait lost 50 paisa to Rs 56 and polystyrene Pak was quoted at Rs 3538.
On Friday no change was reported in prices as almost all the market players were engaged in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Jodia Bazaar milk powder moved both ways. The changes were:
MILK POWDER SKIMMED (Per bag of 25 kgs): Irish skimmed edged up by Rs 25 to Rs 6,725 and Haleeb SMP was quoted at Rs 6,550.
SWEETENED (Per carton): King closed down by Rs 50 to Rs 2,100 and Lucky Boy edged lower by Rs 25 to Rs 2,625.
On Saturday urad from Burma gained sharply by Rs 500 to Rs 3500, the wheat old and new both shed Rs 5 to Rs 2615-2630 and gur low type lost Rs 300 to Rs 4900 and good type shed Rs 200 to Rs 5600. Gram 50x50 lost Rs 100 to Rs 3200-3400. Gram dal 50x50 also shed the same amount at Rs 3550-3750, yellow peas Canada low type rose by Rs 75 to Rs 2800 and good type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 2900 and yellow dal peas Canada fell by Rs 50 to Rs 3100-3250.
A solo change was seen on the seed side, where cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low quality was higher by Rs 40 to Rs 1040 and better type gained Rs 60 to Rs 1070.
