Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior Talha Mehmood has asked the Ministry of Interior to provide details about the presence of Blackwater along with the details of their activities being carried out in the country. Chairing the committee meeting on Monday, he expressed concern over the reports of presence of the Blackwater, and showed its reservation over 414 houses, hired by the US citizens in the capital under the "Special Americans" category.
Senator Haji Adeel, Senator Syeda Sughra Imam, Senator Almas Perveen, representatives of Foreign Office, Ministry of Interior, law-enforcement Agencies and Capital Development Authority (CDA) were also present. Talha Mehmood asked the Ministry of Interior to provide details of all the foreigners living in various parts of the country, adding that if they were living legally, "then we open heartedly welcome them, otherwise they should be deported."
The committee showed its serious reservation over the issuance of visa to Davis, who was deported to the US for his alleged involvement in suspicious activities through his NGO. A US national Davis running an NGO (Creative Associates International) was using it as cover for Blackwater recruitment in Pakistan. He was expelled on suspicious activities, but he was allowed to come back to Pakistan in less than two months.
Talha Mehmood asked the Interior Minister to provide a detailed report on who allowed him to re-enter Pakistan. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad told the committee that roads in front of Marriott and Serena hotels would be fully cleared by November 14. Later, Talha Mehmmod told media that on Tuesday (November 3) Dr Aafia would appear before the court, and said: "We are hopeful that she will get justice."
