The prices of commodities have shown no trend to ease much to the problems of the hand to mouth citizens. The opening day obviously was dearer, as in the past week retailers abstained to lift hoping prices will come down.
On Monday on Jodia Bazaar kirana items black pepper from Singapore rose by Rs 700 to Rs 11,200, black pepper from Ceylon rose by Rs 400 to Rs 11,000, mace quoted at Rs 46000, big cardamom scales higher by Rs 6800 to Rs 25,000, cloves up by Rs 1500 to Rs 18,500, dry ginger (China) closed higher by Rs 150 to Rs 6000 dry ginger from Ethiopia rose by Rs 700 to Rs 4,200, long pepper rose by Rs 6000 to Rs 10600, peanuts up by Rs 450 to RS 3900, chillies dandiwali quoted at Rs 5600 and cuminseed rose by Rs 400 to Rs 8900.
On grain and seed market gur low type maintained weekend level while the better type lost Rs 200 to Rs 4700, til low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2850, better type was put at Rs 3600. Cottonseed oilcakes, better type lost Rs 10 to Rs 1060, while the other type was put at Rs 1040. Rapeseed Nawabshsh low type scaled higher by Rs 35 to Rs 1475 while the better type was higher by Rs 40 to Rs 1500, rapeseed Mirpur was up Rs 25 to Rs 1400 while the other was quoted at RS 1425. Rapeseed cakes gained Rs 30 to Rs 730 while the other type was quoted at Rs 740.
On Tuesday only variations were marked in cottonseed oilcakes with bag Sindh low type rose by Rs 20 to Rs 1060 while better type rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1070. The tea reports from Kenya and Bangladesh say rising trend was seen in both places. In both the cases stepped up demand was stated to have basically caused the rise. Pakistan packers were cited front buyers. Besides demand, the shortage was partly caused by drought. In BD, Pakistan and countries from the common wealth were active buyers.
On Wednesday til and Irri 9 Sindh surged - Irri 9 better type rose by Rs 200 to Rs 3200, while the other type stood put at Rs 2500. Irri 6 Sindh better type was seen put at Rs 2450 while the other type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2400. Til low type rose sharply by Rs 350 to Rs 3200 while better type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 3700. The seed side saw cottonseed cakes low type was unchanged at Rs 1600, while better type gained Rs 10 to Rs 1080.
On Jodia Bazaar jute twine 20x3 brown conceded Re 1 to Rs 72, 16x3 CRT/Indus lost Re 1 to Rs 72, 8x3 quoted at Rs 100 to Rs 40x2 brown conceded Re 1 to Rs 69.
On Thursday wheat gained Rs 10 to Rs 2625 and Rs 2640, gur low type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 4800, while the other type rose by Rs 400 to Rs 6000. Cotton oilcakes Sindh with bags quoted at Rs 1100.
On Jodia Bazaar chemicals (per kg) Oxalic acid China rose Rs 3 to Rs 59, Petroleum jelly DDBSA conceded Re 1 to Rs 124, PVA Japan lost Rs 2 to Rs 196. Rangolite C (per pound) China lost Rs 2 to Rs 68, hydrosulphate China 88 pc rose Re 1 to Rs 64. Acetic acid Taiwan shed Rs 3 to Rs 73 and Korea lost Rs 2 to Rs 72. Hydrogen peroxide: Descom (50 pc) lost Rs 4 to Rs 37, Sitara rose by Rs 4 to Rs 37, Korea (5 pc) rose Rs 4 to Rs 38 and Thailand shed Re 1 to Rs 30.
On Friday no change was seen on the wholesale grain and seed markets, as almost all the participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Jodia Bazaar plastic moulding compounds closed mixed. The changes were:
PLASTIC MOULDING COMPOUNDS (Per lb): HDPE (INJECTION):
Sabic 200056 closed down by Re 1 to Rs 64 and Mobil 016 was quoted at Rs 62.
HDPE (BLOW): Kuwait edged higher by Re 1 to Rs 64.
LLDPE: W118 ended downward by Re 1 to Rs 63, 7087 moved lower by 50 paisa to Rs 62.50.
POLYPROPYLENE (FILM): Thai closed down by Re 1 to Rs 56, Kuwait moved lower by 25 paisa to Rs 56.75 and India went lower by 25 paisa to Rs 56.75.
POLYPROPYLENE (TAPE GRADE): Kuwait closed down by 50 paisa to Rs 55 and Saudia moved lower by 50 paisa to Rs 55.
POLYPROPYLENE (INJECTION GRADE): Saudia edged down by Rs 2 to Rs 64. COPOLY: Block moved downward by Re 1 to Rs 63 and Randon was quoted at Rs 70. ABS (Per bag): Polylac 707 finished higher by Rs 150 to Rs 4,650 and Iran ended up by Rs 150 to Rs 4,450. On Saturday business was thin as most of the items were unmoved due to balance demand and supply position, dealers said.
Gur low type gained Rs 200 to Rs 5000, while the better type was unchanged at Rs 6000, masoor Canada quoted higher at Rs 6800. A solo deal was witnessed on the rice sector as Irri-6 Sindh low type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 2425 and superior quality was inert at Rs 2450, they said.
On Jodia Bazaar Ceylon raw rubber moved both ways. The changes were:
CEYLON RAW RUBBER (Per lb):
Merryrub (Equivalent to RSS3) edged down by Rs 2 to Rs 98, RSSV closed lower by Re 1 to Rs 100, Merryrub (Equivalent to Crape) finished higher by Rs 5 to Rs 125 and Pale Crape TPC3 moved upward by Rs 5 to Rs 125.
LATEX: Merrytax (28 kg) was quoted at Rs 640 and Semnan Tex was quoted at Rs 640.
