For the facility of growing number of users more new buses will be brought on the roads of provincial metropolis soon and automated ticketing system will also be introduced. Punjab Minister for Transport, Excise and Taxation and Education, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said this while talking to a delegation of citizen here on Friday.
He said that a comprehensive system has been evolved for the provision of better transport facilities to the people in all big cities of the province. Subsidy is also being given to operators for this purpose, he added. Explaining the resolve of his government, he said, modern transport facilities would be provided to the citizens adding that 25 percent subsidy was already being given to operators for this purpose.
"Public transport is the indicator of development and public awareness in a country and provision of modern transport facilities is the priority of the government and public transport system is being improved for this purpose", he reiterated.
He explained that those local and foreign operators would also be encouraged who are capable of operating the transport system in an organised manner and providing better transport facilities to the masses. The minister stated that there will be a balanced policy regarding allotment of routes, adding that no illegal transport should be allowed on the routes for this purpose.
