The sugar crisis is worsening with every passing day, as residents are still unable to get it in the federal capital, even at the utility stores and sale points set by the government. Talking to PPI residents have urged the government to take stern action against sugar mafia involved in the crisis and appealed Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of non-implementation of SC's verdict.
Even after the announcement made by the government the sugarcane crushing has not been started yet. The Government, as per Supreme Court orders, has fixed the official rate of sugar at Rs 40 per kg, but its implementation is yet to be made possible. Shopkeepers and dealers are selling sugar at a price of Rs 70 to 80 per kg in every market but when customers ask for sugar at Rs 40 rate, they simply excuse by saying that there is no sugar available.
Mohammad Nadeem a resident of G-6 said that he could not find sugar in four markets situated in his sector, however, few shopkeepers were still selling sugar at the rate of Rs 70 to 80 to their close ones.
He said implementation of apex court orders have become challenge for the government, as sugar mafia seem violating court orders freely. Afshan Zahoor, a housewife, said if ruling parties could not control sugar mills owners and failed to ensure availability of sugar at rate fixed by the Supreme Court than how they could held accountable former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf for his wrong doings.
