Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that no operation is being conducted in Balochistan, "and we have made a solid strategy to give package for the prosperity and development of Balochistan after consultation with all political parties." He was talking here on Sunday to mediamen at local airport, before leaving for Lahore, and during the marriage ceremony of a nephew of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
The Prime Minister said that Balochistan package would be tabled in the parliament soon and Baloch people would get their full rights. He said that Balochistan was totally deprived from its rights in the past but it would not happen now. He rejected the impression that the nuclear programme is in danger, and said that the nuclear assets are totally safe, "and we can protect our nuclear assets".
Gilani appreciated the performance of Pak Army in the war against terror and said that this war would be taken to the end, and motherland would be cleaned from the extremists. "It is being tried that local population should be kept separated from the terrorists and that's why local tribesmen are also fighting against terrorists", he added. He also appreciated 170 million people of Pakistan who have supported the steps of government during this war. He hoped that operation would end before the expectation.
About the visit of US Foreign Minister Hillary Clinton, he said that he had made it clear to her that Pakistan wants US to take it into confidence if US changes its policy about Afghanistan. "Hillary Clinton had assured me that they would take Pakistan into confidence", he added.
While meeting with the delegation of textile sector and chamber of commerce & industry, the Prime Minister said that economical condition of Pakistan is better now and foreign exchange reserves have crossed $14 billion. "However, the real prosperity can be achieved only when we would get rid of terrorism. The series of development projects is going on all over the country and all the members of parliament have been issued funds without any discrimination."
About energy sector, Gilani said that "this crisis has not been created by us, but PPP has taken several measures to tackle this crisis after coming into the government".
He said that development work in Multan has been started. Work is under progress on many projects. With the completion of Multan International Airport, not only trade and textile activities would increase but farmers of this region would also get the opportunity to export their products especially mango and cotton.
