A 20-member delegation of position-holders including 10 girls from Balochistan Thursday visited Government College University Lahore and met with the Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab. The delegation, escorted by traffic wardens, Punjab police and the officials of protocol department, reached the university at 8:30am and spent a couple of hours there.
The VC GCU, in his meeting with the students, discussed his personal experiences with them in a light and informal way at the syndicate meeting room. He advised them to pay respect to their teachers. "Good students and good teachers are the main pillars of educational institutions," he added.
He told them a golden principle "never know your limitations", saying that Allah has granted you enormous qualities and empowered you to do any thing you want. "For this what you all need is a will and passion," he added. Dr Aftab recalled the GCU motto "courage to know", the motto of enlightenment. He said that enlightenment means 'sharing knowledge', not imposing knowledge.
"Every person has his own faith, ideas and knowledge. It is not necessary that you should agree with them. However, you should respect their knowledge and ideas," he added. Each position-holder of Balochistan individually asked questions about the history of the institution, various programmes and admission process.
The VC answered their questions in detail and also guided them to the various fields. Dr Aftab told them about the GCU co-curricular activities, as well as laid stress on acquiring quality education. Nazir Shah, an official of Balochistan Education Department and the delegation leader, told the vice chancellor that it was the first tour of most of the students to Punjab, especially Lahore.
The students especially boys expressed their desire to study at the university. The students that were received by the university staff members, under the historical clock tower, took photographs from cell-phones and digital cameras. Later, they were taken to the GCU sports complex where they were briefed about different sports facilities.-PR
