Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Presidency on Monday and discussed political and security issues confronting by the country. During the meeting matters relating to the current political situation, NRO, the ongoing drive against militants in Waziristan, problems of IDPs, the measures taken by the government to address sugar problem and 'Aghaz-e-Haqooqe Balochistan Package' came under discussion.
The Prime Minister lauded the president for handing over JF-17 Thunder aircrafts to PAF. Sources said that the two leaders also discussed the political situation in the aftermath of making the names of NRO beneficiaries public and underscored evolution of an effective party strategy to handle what they perceived as a vilification campaign against the party. The two leaders also discussed the performance of the ministers and the proposed reshuffle in the federal cabinet after the Eid.
It is learnt that President and Prime Minister opined that nobody had been convicted by any court and the cases would be faced in courts after their reopening Later, in a hand out issued by spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the Prime Minister discussed with the President salient features of Balochistan Empowerment Package which will be unveiled in the joint sitting of the Parliament on Tuesday (today).
The Package contains a series of constitutional reforms, economic measures and administrative steps to assuage the intensity of hurt feelings of the people of Balochistan. Farhatullah Babar said that the President complimented the Prime Minister on finalisation of Balochistan Empowerment Package and expressed hope that it will go a long way in redressing the grievances of the people of the province.
Gilani also discussed the constitutional issues that are being thrashed out by the Constitutional Reform Committee and will be placed soon in the Parliament. The Prime Minister also discussed the new accountability law, which is under process. He said that he has started the process of taking other political parties into confidence on this issue, the spokesman said. The President said that the policy of national reconciliation should be continued and all political parties would be taken on board on all national issues.
