Children make up more than half of Pakistan's population and yet the powers in the corridors cannot hear their voices, calling for help to solve their issues of quality education, good health, freedom from child labour and opportunities to live a happy life.
Speaking at the award giving ceremony of Sparc Reel Vies Festival, Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and prominent journalist, I.A Rahman pointed that the prevailing situation of the country is having a very negative impact and children are the worst victims. He further added that it is a very tough for people to work on the subject of human rights, as people are not willing to hear, said a press release issued by Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc), here on Thursday.
"We keep looking for entry points; Sparc Reel View festival is a very good entry point", he said. Visual medium is the best way to educate a nation, especially for awareness raising but unfortunately, our nation did not recognise the importance of cinema.
Earlier, at the second day of the festival, heartrending documentaries, songs and TV programmes were showcased at the Pakistan National Council of Arts, bringing tears to many eyes. At the end of the programme, awards were given to the best entries in the categories of documentaries, songs and TV programmes. The documentaries who won the awards included 'Best Documentary Direction', which was bagged by a documentary, 'Children on Street', directed by Anwarzada, submitted by Dawn.
For Best Script, 'Khooni Rishton kay Saudagar' by Ahmer A Rehman won the prize. For best lyrics, the award went to Azhar Riaz. The award of Best TV Show on Child Rights went to children's court by Sajjad Gul. The festival ended on the note of appreciation for media's role in promoting children rights.
