President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Qazi Muhammad Anwar while demanding resignations from NRO benefited ministers, said that under the law the qualification of President, Asif Ali Zardari, was also questioned at the time of his nomination.
While addressing the media personnel after executive committee meeting of SCBA, Qazi said how one could expect justice from any court when a minister went to the courts with the national flag on his official vehicle. While giving example of Italian Prime Minister he said no one including president of Pakistan could enjoy immunity in corruption cases.
He has no personal grudged with President Asif Ali Zardari, but under article 248, 41, 62 and 63 he was not eligible to contest elections at the time of his nomination. He said that the cases of the people who enjoyed the NRO during October 15 2007 to February 04 2008 had been closed and the same would open only if Supreme Court declares the promulgation of NRO as illegal unconstitutional and without lawful authority.
While commenting on the statement of Prime Minister of Pakistan about his status as chief executive of Pakistan government he said Prime Minister should not pass such statements abroad.
He, however, said we need the system in right track and have nothing to do with his relation with the President He said corruption has crippled our system and there is need of hour to bring drastic reforms in the system. He said though the judiciary has been revived, they need to see the independent judiciary. He said judges of the higher courts only do not represent the whole judicial system, the judges of civil courts, additional district and session courts will also have to play their due role.
Replying to a question about the appointment of the judges in the higher court he said that bar should have nothing to do with the appointment of the judges and added that judges should be selected from the persons have good repute and dignity. The meeting condemned the recent increase in petrol prices. The meeting also decided to pay pension to over 70 years old bar members and constituted a number of committees to organise the lawyers, he added.
