Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that a state-of-the-art centre is being established in the province at a cost of Rs 1 billion for the welfare and rehabilitation of special persons. He constituted a core group for formulating proposals and a comprehensive plan with regard to the centre. The core group would submit its recommendations within seven days.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding welfare and rehabilitation of special persons here on Friday, disclosed an official. Provincial Minister for Special Education Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Secretary Special Education, Vice Chairman Punjab Welfare Trust Dr Amjad Saqib, Brigadier (Retd) Anees Ahmad, Dr Khalid Jamil, Maratab Ali, Yumna Khan and Garrot Garrow were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that care and look after of special persons is the responsibility of the government and no effort would be spared in this regard. He also said no attention was paid to the welfare of special persons in the past due to which their problems have increased.
He said affairs of the centre would be managed on the pattern of a corporate sector company and there would be no interference on the part of the government. He directed members of the core group to formulate their recommendations without any delay. The participants of the meeting also put forward their proposals for the welfare and betterment of special persons.
Meanwhile, the CM strongly condemned the incident of terrorism at Rawalpindi and said that the enemies could not demoralise the nation with such tactics. He said the whole nation is standing shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces and the nefarious designs of enemies of Pakistan and Islam would be foiled. "The murderers have exposed their evil faces by firing on people offering prayers. Sacrifices of officers and jawans of Pak Army and citizens will not go in vain and the people of Pakistan fully share the grief of the families of the martyrs," he added.
