There is need of concerted efforts to tide over the difficult period faced by the country in the wake of incidents of terrorism and militancy.
This was stated by the Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, here on Sunday. He was talking to media persons during his visit to the Darul Uloom Korangi.
The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, was also present on the occasion. The minister said that he has come here in order to seek the guidance. He said that he even went to London to seek guidance from the chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain.
Rehman Malik said that we go to the PML (N), PML (Q) as well as Jamaat-i-Islami for the purpose as we understand that all are the well-wishers of Pakistan and in this difficult period we all have to work together.
He further said that the enemies of the country are trying to destabilise the country and a handful of people are playing in the hands of those who want to cause harm to the country. The minister said, "our entire leadership is united on war against terror and we are heading in the right direction.
"What I feel is that at the moment we need to forge a consensus", he remarked. Rehman Malik said that there is no place in the country for the anti-state elements and are playing in the hands of the enemies of Pakistan by resorting to acts of terrorism and targeting innocent people and others. When a reporter referred to the Lal Masjid operation carried out in Islamabad during the era of the Pervez Musharraf, and asked whether the present government would take any action against those responsible, the minister said that the incident was a tragic one.
He said that after coming to power, the first instruction of President Asif Ali Zardari was to look into the matter and resolve it.
He further stated that if anyone comes forward and lodges FIR then the law will take its own course. Replying to a question, the Minister said that the present government had inherited a collapsed law and order and the economy.
He pointed out that when the present government came to power at that time there were daily three to four bomb blasts in the country. Rehman Malik said that today the achievements of the present government in Swat and South Waziristan are before all of us. He pointed out that the tribal people are loyal to Pakistan and sided with the country in any difficult period. The Minister said that the successes that the government has achieved in South Waziristan is due to these tribal people as they have refused to give any place to the "hired assassins" and there are "Lashkars" and that they are extending assistance to the Pakistan Army. The head of Darul Uloom Korangi, Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, and other officials of the Darul Uloom were also present on the occasion.
