The Lahore High Court issued notices for December 21 in a petition praying to the court to declare beneficiaries of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) disqualified from contesting the election or holding any public office. The petitioner Javed Iqbal Jaffrey contended that NRO beneficiaries are those who are accused of looting the national wealth.
He said it was clearly stated in Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution that a corrupt person cannot become member of National Assembly and all these beneficiaries are facing corruption charges. He said that all politicians and bureaucrats taken benefit under NRO should be declared ineligible to participate in the election or holding any public office. He requested life time ban on politicians taken benefit under NRO. He further prayed to the court to direct the interior ministry to put their names on Exit Control List.
