Pakistan Electric Power Company's spokesman has said that Pepco teams are busy in rehabilitation/repair work of four damaged pylons of 500KV transmission lines blasted by unidentified miscreants in a sabotage activity. Rehabilitation work started on war footing and will be completed in shortest possible time. Soon after the incident, Pepco teams, Bomb Disposal Squad, Fire brigade, Police and local administration reached the site.
Presently, the teams of NTDC engineers and workers are reinforcing and rehabilitating to ensure un-interrupted power supply to Gatti and Yousafwala grid stations, feeding electricity to major cities like Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Southern part of the country. Such sabotage activities have gained momentum in recent days. Pepco has suffered colossal losses in coin and material besides diverting manpower from other vital assignments.
He said that saboteurs targeted four pylons near Murade Kalan, comprising Sheikhupura-Nokhar(Gakhar) circuit number 1 and 2, Sheikhupura-Gatti transmission lines and Sheikhupura-Yousafwala transmission lines, eight explosive devices were fixed on the legs of each pylon, subsequently caused damage to above mentioned pylons severely.
Talking about earlier sabotage incidents, Pepco confronted a difficult situation, when 220KV Sibbi - Quetta industrial line at Bibi Nani village of Machh (a difficult and insecure terrain), 80 kilometers away from Sibbi was damaged suspending power supply to various parts of Balochistan province. However, Pepco teams were mobilised along with Sibbi Police and restored the power supply in record time. 220KV Sheikh Muhammadi-Daudkhel, Tarbela-Sheikh Muhammdi Peshawar and 500kv Tarbela-Ghazi Brotha Line-I near Attock were also affected in sabotage activities. Subsequently, the NTDC engineers and workers with their untiring efforts, repaired and restored the system in shortest possible time in a volatile areas and turbulent terrains of Balochistan, NWFP and Sindh.
Pepco spokesman expressed grave concern over increasing activities of sabotage targeting its installations. The looming threat solicits attention of administration and law enforcing agencies to keep the power supply intact.
