NWFP Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak on Friday announced regularisation of services of 1,350 contract subject specialists teachers (SSTs). Briefing media persons here, he said that the regularised subject specialists included 818 male and 532 female teachers serving in various schools of the province.
The services of the contractual teachers have been regularised under the NWFP Employees (Regularisation of Services) Act 2009. The Education Minister said that the regularisation of the contractual teachers would be effective from January 1, 2009, saying it would help in overcoming the shortage of teaching staff in the public sector schools of the province.
He said that regularisation of the contractual employees would not affect the promotion of the existing regular teaching staff at all. He said that the policy of the Awami National Party (ANP) was to give employment to the people, adding that the government was trying to appoint the right persons for the right jobs.
The objective of the NWFP government was to impart quality education to the students and to enhance literacy ratio in the province, he added. Babak said that efforts were also being made to fill the vacant posts of headmasters and principals all over the province. He disclosed that as many as 3,747 posts had been requisitioned from the NWFP Public Service Commission and "we are satisfied with the progress so far made in this regard, he said.
