Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has said that "we want good relationships with our neighbouring countries, including India. We will talk on all core issues with India. However, all proceedings in this regard can not be disclosed".
He said: "We want to solve all issues with India including Kashmir and water dispute.: He said this while talking to mediamen at local airport here on Sunday during his short visit to Multan. Gilani said that the process of composite dialogue was suspended for the time being due to Mumbai attacks and the whole advantage was taken by the terrorists. Regarding his statement in the joint declaration after the meeting with Indian PM in Sherm al Shiekh, he said "We have evidences regarding the Mumbai attacks, but we would present them on some authentic forum".
About option of dialogue with Taliban, the Prime Minister said that the government was working on 3-D policy ie, Development, Dialogue and Deterrence. "So now after the successful military operation, there is no need left for dialogue with the militants."
He said that the military operation was going on very successfully and it was before the entire world. Wherever the writ of government would be challenged, military operation would be conducted there. He said that the army "is fully alert" and it was succeeding due to complete support of public. "Military operation had been started in tribal areas after the consent of parliament and leadership, and there was no other way left."
Talking about the new US-Afghan policy, he said: "We have a strategic partnership with US and it has taken us into confidence over its new Afghan policy." He said that war on terror was a severe threat for the entire world and in this situation it was necessary that Pakistan and US should stay together, otherwise success was not possible.
The PM expressed deep grief over the incident of Multan blast and said that it was a very unfortunate incident, "and I really feel sorry over this incident". He said that this city is a very peaceful one and this is the first time in the history that such incident occurred here. He announced a grant of Rs 25 million for the affected people of blast. Rs 15 million was announced for the compensation of property losses, Rs 500,000 each for the families of dead people and Rs 100,000 each for the injured. Commenting on the suggestion of Nawaz Sharif to hold local bodies elections on party basis, he said that it was a very good suggestion, "and I agree with this suggestion because the party strengthens with this process at grass-roots level".
The PM said that Terrorist Research Centre is being established in which there would be a think tank consisting of experts from media, education and police. The purpose of this centre is to provide education to students to defend themelves in terrorist activities and think tank would find the solutions to counterattack such incidents.
Talking about the NRO issue, he said that all the four provinces including federation have told the larger bench of Supreme Court in writing that "we will not defend NRO". So let the SC look into this matter, he added.
About the arrest of foreigners in Sargodha, he said that the US citizens who were arrested a few days back are under investigation and after the completion of investigation anything could be said about it. Talking about NFC Awards, he said that the problems of Balochistan would be solved now after this award. He said that according to ppp manifesto, "we would revive the constitution of 1973 and nation would soon hear good news in this regard. We will not take any step that doesn't have the support of public".
Tight security arrangements were made on this occasion and for the first time military squad was also deputed for the security of Prime Minister. From the airport, PM went to Combined Military Hospital and Nishtar Hospital to meet the people injured in the blast.
