Directorate General, Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I) of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Karachi has foiled a bid of illegally importing a huge quantity of cell phones from Sharjah. Sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday that information was received on December 12 that some 20,000 mobile phones were to be imported through flight PK-0192, scheduled from Sharjah to Turbat.
They said that the information was passed on to additional director, intelligence and investigation-FBR, regional office, Quetta to get hold of the consignment. Reacting on the said information, the additional director has deputed a team under the supervision of superintendent of the range office Gwadar to intercept the said consignment.
They said that the staff has intercepted and recovered some 6120 China made cell phones and added that the market value of the consignment is worth Rs 30 million, involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 1.713 million. It has been learnt that another consignment of around 9000 mobile phones were already cleared from Sharjah with an active connivance of the customs staff posted at Turbat airport.
