Ten people were killed and two others were injured in a bus crash on a major highway in Malaysia early Saturday, police said. The double-decker bus skidded and struck a metal guard rail and a road divider in Ipoh while heading from central Selangor state to Perlis in the north, said local police chief Wan Abdullah Ishak.
"The bus skidded and struck the guard rail on the left and then veered and hit the divider on the right before coming to a halt," Wan Abdullah was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency. The victims were sitting in the lower deck, which was pierced by the metal guard rail. Accidents involving interstate buses are common in Malaysia and there are allegations that some drivers take drugs to keep them awake.
