The intense wave of dense haze is still persisting all across South Punjab including Multan, surging the intensity of winter weather, besides adversely affecting traffic hustle and bustle.
According to National Highway and Motorway and Police spokesman, the vehicles with fog-lights were allowed on different routes like Multan-Lahore via Sahiwal, Faisalabad via Jhang, Rahimyarkhan via Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan via Muzaffargarh, Alipur- as visibility has reached to 'Zero' point apart from, bringing long-hours delays in trains' rosters.
All the five flights, PK-576 (Karachi-Multan-Karachi), PK-574 (Karachi-Multan-Lahore), PK 577 (Islamabad-Multan-Karachi), PK-578 (Karachi-Multan-Karachi and PK-575 (Lahore-Multan-Karachi) were cancelled. The worst affected cities and towns facing spate of thick fog included Multan, Kabirwala, Lodhran, Khanewal, Mian Chunnu,Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Multan airport remained closed for four days and international passengers could not catch flights from Lahore and Karachi. Multan bound Bahauddin Zikiriya Express reach here eight hours late of its scheduled time while trains have also met the same fate for three to seven hours, sources further said. The current spate of foggy environment will persist unless it rains in Punjab, however, no chance of downpours is expected in next 24 hours, met office said.
