Co-ordinator for "Sasti Roti" programme of Chief Minister Punjab, Rao Tahir Musharraf has said that 20,000 tandoors are being established, part of comprehensive plan, to ensure the provision of cheap and quality loaf to people and to stop the theft of flour.
According to this plan, monitoring committees are being formed at mohallah, union council, tehsil and district levels in which tandoor owners, government officials and representatives of NGO's would be given the membership. He was addressing a special meeting held in Commissioner Office here on Wednesday in which District Co-ordinator Farooq Bhatti and other concerned officers were also present.
He said that monitoring committees would take the action in case of any corruption. He further told that a three-member committee at tandoor, five-member committee at union council and eight-member committee would do the monitoring at tehsil level whereas at district level, DCO would be the chairman and DOR would be the secretary of the committee.
Telling the responsibilities of these monitoring committees, Rao Tahir said that committees would monitor the provision of standard roti and the availability of supply book of Food Department. He said that tandoor owners have been issued the cards, who would get the flour from the flour mills through these cards. He said that this programme to provide sasti roti would not be confined only to cities but would be spread to all the villages and towns.
The number of tandoors in highly populated area and the quota of flour selling large number of loaves would be increased. District Co-ordinator Muhammad Farooq Bhatti on this occasion said that roti is the basic necessity and all the resources would be utilised to fulfil this requirement. He said that the number of crimes would also decrease with the provision of cheap roti to people.
