Pakistan Muttahida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) has announced to stage a country wide protest on February 25 to highlight the Indian aggression of depriving Pakistan from its share of water by constructing various dams on rivers which may ruin the agricultural sector of the country.
Besides this, PMKM has also planned to stage a protest demonstration along the Indo-Pak border on September 6, 2010 in which farmers, students, lawyers, teachers, young and aged citizen and women would participate to highlight the importance of the issue on international community.
This was disclosed by the PMKM Chief Ayub Khan Mayo while talking to media persons here on Friday. He said prior to these two big events, his organisation would arrange public meetings, rallies and seminars through out the country to mobilise all sections of the society to raise the issue and press Pakistani government to take up this issue with Indian government in a strong manner.
Mayo urged the government that it should raise the issue with World Bank, UNO, US and international community and apprise them violation of Indus Basic Water Treaty by India so as they could use their influence for stopping India from diverting water of Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh and depriving Pakistan from its due share.
PMKM chief alleged that Pakistani rulers were making no efforts of stopping India from constructing Kishan Ganga dam or other dams which was a violation of Indus Basic Water Treaty. He said that India was not providing any information of constructing dams or stopping the running water from held Kashmir which was a sheer violation of Indus Basic Treaty of 1960.
He demanded that the Pakistan government should use Suparco to monitor the river system through satellite radar besides monitoring the 50 kilometers radius of the site where Kishan Ganga dam was being built to remove the apprehensions of farmers' organisation of the country.
He said that Pakistan government should ensure that India should not built any dam without passing the information to Pakistan or without removing the objections from Pakistan side on new dams or other water projects. Mayo also announced to observe February 5, 2010 'Kashmir Day' as a protest day to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren.
