Islamabad Police have formed a multi-pronged strategy to counter terrorism and protection of life and property of people living in the capital city, said Kaleem Imam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad here on Wednesday.
"People especially youth have a role to play for making capital a crime free zone by co-operating with police to tackle the criminals", Imam said while addressing a function of Beacon-House Schools System titled as 'The Guest for Programme 2009-2010'. He was the chief guest in the function.
Imam in his address said that under a comprehensive strategy plan Islamabad police have foiled many terror bids in the capital and arrested terrorists and suicide bombers before they cause any loss to people or government functionaries.
He urged the youth to play their role for peace and socio economic stability of the country with complete honesty, dedication and determination. "Once we play the role with honesty we will be strong and stable nation in the community of nations", Imam said.
IGP of Islamabad Police called upon the citizens of Islamabad to extend their co-operation to police for eradication of crime and other social evils. Police alone cannot eliminate the social evils, but it is responsibility of every citizen to help police in this gigantic task, he added. He asked the parents and teachers to give their children and students awareness about the social issues and educate them about their social responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Tahir Alam Khan has said that more weapons and bullet proof jackets would be provided to those police officials performing duties at the police pickets.
Talking to reporters after a ceremony organised by `FLAG', an NGO to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives or wounded in war against terrorism, he said that Islamabad police is chasing terrorists and there would be a good news soon. Earlier addressing the gathering, he urged the people to shun their differences at this critical juncture in the history of the country and make joint efforts to root out the menace of terrorism.
The SSP stressed to eliminate the causes of terrorism and make joints efforts to make our society ` more secure'. " Philanthropists should come forward and work for the provision of education and health facilities," he said and acknowledged the role of `FLAG' for this cause.
The SSP said Islamabad police is performing duties with commitment and devotion and serving the citizens after putting their own lives at risk. Flag had made a good start by arranging its for the acknowledgement to the victims of war against terrorism.
