Quetta Police and Balochistan Constabulary on Monday staged protest demonstrations by torching hundreds of tyres at various roundabouts and bazaars of the provincial capital to press their demand for enhancement in salary at per with police of other three provinces, which caused rise in air pollution in the city.
APP learnt on Wednesday that citizens have complained of surging air pollution and difficulties in heaving sigh after the Quetta Police and Balochistan Constabulary personnel torched hundreds of tyres at various roundabouts including Zarghoon Road, Prince Road, Jinnah Road, Mannan Chowk, Sariab Road, Assembly Chowk and others.
Presently, Quetta city is receiving extreme cold which does not allow smoke and air pollution to disperse and in the morning and evening time, citizens have to suffer difficulty in heaving sigh.
Although on the instructions of Town Municipal Officer Zarghoon Town Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, the town sanitation staff has washed the roads and roundabouts with water however, still air pollution related problem is existed. A violent protest staged by Quetta Police in which a number of citizens and journalists were manhandled also disrupted routine life and business activities.
Citizens of Quetta are still in grip of panic with expressing fear that such violent demonstrations once again may occurred. At other hand, protester police personnel had contended the government should realize the gravity of the situation and increase salaries of Balochistan Police and Constabulary.
It is reality that they are receiving lesser salaries than police departments of other three provinces which is insufficient even to meet their kitchen expenditures. They also maintained that they were asked to fight extremism and terrorism even by sacrificing their life but no practical steps were being taken to redress their grievances and genuine problems by enhancing their salaries.
