Over 900 auditors and senior auditors of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay in promotions, which may lead to country-wide protest at all Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs).
Sources told Business Recorder that a meeting of the Auditors Association was convened here on Wednesday to discuss the delay in the promotions in the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) structure. Under the IRS, a new organisational set up, the positions of the auditors and senior auditors are still not clear.
The FBR should accommodate these auditors in the new structure for smooth implementation of the Tax Administration Reform Project (TARP). During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to launch a countrywide protest in all RTOs and LTUs, directorate of Internal Audit and Directorate of Investigation & Intelligence in the next few days in the case of non-fulfilment of demands by the FBR.
They argued that summary of upgradation of senior auditors and auditors to BPS-17 and BPS-16 respectively has not yet been finally approved despite passing of several months. The promotion against the vacant/existing posts of Assistant Commissioner of Inland Revenue (Sales Tax and Federal Excise) should be given immediately to the senior auditors.
Four-tier policy may be implemented as promised by the worthy chairman FBR in the meeting with the association CEC members of RTO Karachi. The FBR should also fulfil all other demands immediately as per minutes of the meeting which were agreed between the FBR and the association.
The association has requested the FBR chairman Sohail Ahmed to personally intervene into the matter of their promotion. The meeting was attended by Afzal Malik President, Afzal Khan SVP, Zarar Haider VP, Asif Saeed Joint Secretary, Ishrat Hussain Finance Secretary and Fazul Rehman Secretary Co-ordination of the meeting.
